Abstract

This study investigates the efficacy of dates palm juice in alleviating anemia among 100 tuberculosis patients undergoing treatment. Participants from four public health centers in Bandar Lampung were divided into control (n=25) and treatment groups (n=75). The treatment groups received tuberculosis therapy alongside distinct dates palm juice: Thoory, Tamr, and Ajwa. Daily supplementation of dates, in the form of 3x2 tablespoons, was administered over seven days. The hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit (Ht), and erythrocyte counts were assessed before and after supplementation. Thoory juice significantly increased Hb, Ht, and erythrocyte count. Tamr showed a significant Hb increase, while Ht and erythrocyte counts showed a non-significant increase. Ajwa showed non-significant improvements across parameters. In conclusion, date supplementation, particularly with Thoory juice, shows promise in enhancing Hb, Ht, and erythrocyte levels in tuberculosis patients, offering a potential option to address anemia in this population.
