Camptothecin (CPT) as anti-tumor quinoline alkaloid drug is demonstrated. In this research, a derivative of camptothecin, Diol camptothecin, was designed. Absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity (ADMET) properties were computed to achieve appreciate bioavailability and computational chemistry studies performed using AM1 semi-empirical method to establish the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO), electrostatic potential map, virtual fourier transform infrared (FTIR), statistical thermodynamics parameters and chemometrics calculations of Diol CPT in terms of pharmacokinetic and physicochemical descriptors relationships. The obtained results showed that Diol CPT has optimum pharmacological parameters including lack of CYP450 inhibitory and low toxicity.

In this study, we investigated the incidence and trend of head and neck malignant tumors between 2004 and 2015 in Yazd, Iran. A database study was conducted using the tumor registry data which was taken from Shahid Sadoughi hospital in Yazd. This study consisted of 824 patients that 57.9 % were men and 42.1 % were women. The mean age of patients was 54.31 ±17.18 years. Thyroid, larynx and skin cancers were the most common cancers. The most frequent malignancy was Laryngeal carcinoma in men and thyroid carcinoma in women. The age distribution of patients showed a higher peak in men than women and also the median age in women was lower in men. Overall the trend in male and female patient number was ascending. According to the increasing trend of head and neck cancers in Yazd, it is recommended that to identify risk factors and vulnerable groups in order to reduce the burden of these types of cancers. It is necessary to inform the trend of incidence for health planning.

Increased application of electrical devices and consequent expansion of electrical distribution network, expose us to extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields (ELF-EMF) more than ever. Mechanisms of action of ELF-EMFs on cells and biomolecules are not well understood. Presence of specific sequence for responsiveness of DNA to ELF-EMF exposure are demonstrated by several in vivo studies. In the present study, possibility of conformational transition and denaturation of double-stranded oligonucleotides with different sequences which exposed to ELF-EMF were examined by circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy. The data obtained from this study did not provide any evidence in support of significant change in double-stranded oligonucleotides conformation.

The extracellular matrix (ECM) provides the cellular environment required during development and morphogenesis. The mechanical forces could influence the expression of ECM components. Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) is a family of proteolytic enzymes participated in ECM remodeling and degradation. We investigated the effect of simulated microgravity on gene expression of some MMPs including MMP1, MMP2, MMP3, MMP14, TIMP1 and TIMP2 in adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) using real-time PCR technique. Our results showed that the expression of selected genes was differentially regulated following microgravity simulation. Therefore, with a better understanding of this mechanical force and its effect on cells, it is likely to use microgravity alone or besides the biochemical inducer for cell manipulation.

To evaluate the association between polymorphisms in the GSTs (GSTT1, GSTM1 and GSTP1) and basal cell carcinoma (BCC), 50 BCC patients and 50 healthy controls were studied. Based on our findings, the frequencies of GSTM1 null genotype in patients and controls were 34 % and 6 %, respectively. Furthermore, the overall frequency of GSTT1 null genotype was higher than in the BCC patients compared to the control samples. The strongest association was observed between GSTP1 polymorphism and BCC in the population. Genotype mixture of GSTM1 and GSTT1 showed a higher risk of developing BCC in subjects with one null genotype. This study suggested a reasonable association between GST polymorphisms and BCC susceptibility among Iranian population.

In this study, optimized conditions were investigated using response surface methodology for the preparation of lysozyme loaded dextran-chitosan nanoparticles. Nanoparticles were prepared using polyelectrolyte complexation method. Relevant factors including polymer ratio, protein concentration, stirring rate, and temperature were considered and the effects of these factors on size, polydispersity index (PDI), entrapment efficiency (EE), and zeta potential of the nanoparticles were investigated. The optimum condition for the nanoparticle preparation was found at chitosan/dextran ratio of 0.37, 1.5 mg/mL with 1600 rpm stirring at 32 °C. The particle size, PDI, encapsulation efficiency, and zeta potential at the optimum conditions were 188.5 nm, 0.287, 84.6 %, and -18.76 mv, respectively. This study revealed that encapsulation of positively charged lysozyme, as a model protein, within negatively charged dextran-chitosan nanocarriers improve the loading capacity and the release properties under physiological conditions.
