Genetic variations in Interleukin-10 (IL-10), an anti-inflammatory cytokine, has the potential to influence the development of Ischemic Stroke (IS). The current study aimed to examine IL-10 gene polymorphisms (rs1800896, rs1800871 and rs1800872) in association with IS. After genotyping, associational analyses showed a significant correlation of rs1800896 with the elevated risk of disease. Whereas for rs1800871, a decreased risk was observed and it might play a protective role. However, rs1800872 did not reveal an association with the predisposition to IS. Furthermore, all the haplotypes were significantly associated with the disease risk except GCA. The acquired Dʹ value from linkage disequilibrium showed the tendency of co-inheritance. Thus, the obtained results suggested that rs1800896 and rs1800871 have a significant relationship with IS.

The present study was conducted to evaluate the frequency of vaginitis based on Pap smear test in patients referred to the gynecology clinic of Milad and Sepahan hospitals in Isfahan. This study was descriptive-cross-sectional. The sampling method was census and all cases referred to the gynecology clinic of Sepahan and Milad hospitals in Isfahan for Pap smear. Data collection method was a pre-prepared questionnaire whose variables included: age (effective agent on genetic factors), clinical manifestations of the disease, level of education and type of vaginitis. Among our patients, 142 patients (70 %) had bacterial vaginitis, 40 patients (19.7 %) had candida and 21 patients (10.3 %) had Trichomonas vaginalis. According to the results of the study, no statistically significant difference was found between the frequency distribution of vaginitis by age, discharge, pruritus, frequency of urination, heartburn and education level. The results of this study showed a high prevalence of bacterial vaginitis compared to other types of vaginitis.

In-vitro dose response effect of bergenin on platelet aggregation by inhibiting inducers (collagen and ADP) and lipoxygenase

In this study, we investigated the anti-platelet activity of bergenin on platelet aggregation induced by collagen and ADP on blood sample of healthy volunteers (18–40 years). Blood sample was centrifuge and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) was carefully collected in tube. Lipoxygenase inhibition activity of bergenin was conducted by spectrophotometric method. In the absence of bergenin about 84 % platelet aggregations showed in PRP, while in its presences 100 % inhibition of platelet aggregation at 6.25 mM induced by collagen. While with the same concentration of bergenin, inhibited platelet aggregation was 91.88 % ± 5.14 induce by ADP. The IC50 values of antiplatelet effect of bergenin induced by collagen and ADP were 3.07mM ± 0.22 and 3.32mM ± 0.10, respectively. The study indicates that bergenin has potent antiplatelet activity to collagen and ADP induced aggregation.

Chemical diversity of essential oil composition from five populations of Dracocephalum Kotschyi Boiss
text

Composition and chemical variation in the essential oil yield were studied among five wild growing populations of Dracocephalum Kotschyi Boiss. (Lamiaceae) from Iran. The hydrodistilled essential oils were isolated from aerial flowering parts of plant, analyzed by capillary GC-FID (Gas Chromatography Flame Ionization Detector) and GC-MS (Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry) were identified. Forty compounds were characterized represented 95.0 – 100 % of the total oil. Oxygenated monoterpenes constituted the main group of compounds (79.9-50.7 %) in the essential oils of all samples followed by monoterpene hydrocarbons (46.1-13.9 %). Perilla aldehyde (49.3 %), limonene (41.6 %), neral (20.9 %) and geranial (22.0 %) were found to be the main compounds. Such great variations in the components of the oils may be ascribed to existence of chemotypes and adaptation of the species to specific habitat. The data obtained contribute to broaden the inventory of wild Dracocephalum Kotschyi populations of Iran to plan programs for the selection of chemotypes with new and specific uses in food and drug industries.

The frequency of intestinal parasites types in the samples studied in the hospital laboratory of Meybod
text

Today, despite advances in medicine, intestinal parasites are still widespread worldwide. This study was performed to investigate the frequency of various intestinal parasites in the Meybod Imam Jafar Sadegh Hospital. In this study, the records of patients were reviewed and data was entered into SPSS (version 22) and analyzed. Only four patients had a positive result. The results also showed that the age group of 1-10 years had the most suspicious referrals. Most of the referrals were men. The highest number of referrals was related to spring and autumn. It can be concluded that in spring and autumn, due to the season and the nature of the food of these seasons, some symptoms including stomach ache and diarrhea caused hospitalization.

Lessons from comparative genome analysis of Acinetobacter baumannii strains
text

The whole-genome sequencing method allows an analysis of genetic differences between bacterial isolates belonging to the same species. In this study, six strains, including Acinetobacter baumannii ACICU (ST2), A. baumannii ATCC 17978 (ST437), A. baumannii ATCC 19606 (ST57), A. baumannii BJAB0868 (ST2), A. baumannii MDR-TJ (ST2), and A. baumannii SDF (ST17) were investigated. Comparative genome analysis revealed different genomic events on genomes of identical STs. In contrast, the positions of the tRNAs on the genomes showed that the identical STs (ACICU, BJAB0868, and MDR-TJ as ST2) have the exact location map. It appeared that the genomic backbone of identical STs is conserved among them. Still, each strain in the same ST has undergone genomic events on its genomes which can be considered as genome plasticity process.
